We specialise in modern drug design inspired by Nature – and investigate compounds from plants, fungi and many other living organisms.
Our research aims to develop innovative pharmaceutical products and research technologies that may alleviate the public health burden caused by lifestyle diseases, cancers, diseases of the central nervous system, infectious diseases and deterioration of such diseases as a result of drug resistance.
Scientists within the Natural Products Research section consolidate their internationally recognised expertise and explore synergies by combining strongholds in advanced NMR spectroscopy, peptides and peptidomimetics, in vitro pharmacology, and drug design inspired by naturally occurring scaffolds.
We utilise our in vitro pharmacological platform to investigate nature’s exciting resources – both for discovery of novel drug leads and for providing evidence-based herbal medicine.
We modify specialised (secondary) metabolites (for example thapsigargin) – using semisynthetic methods – to optimise pharmacological properties and reduce side effects.
