Vascular physiology and pharmacology
The purpose of our research is to unravel the mechanisms that are responsible for changes in function and expression of relevant ion channels and receptors during various pathological conditions such as ischemic heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
This information will increase our knowledge of the complex regulation and adaptation of vascular structure and function in health and disease and may lead to better pharmacotherapy of cardiovascular diseases.
- The complex mechanism behind (auto-) regulatory control and adaptation of vascular tone (and morphology) in health and disease.
- Changes in receptor expression, innervation density (both sensory and sympathetic), intracellular signalling and calcium handling in healthy animals and animal models of disease (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, ischemia and reperfusion).
- Consequences of changes in free energy flux and metabolism on vascular tone and reactivity.
- Wire- and pressurised myograph

- Measurement of physiological parameters (e.g. intracellular calcium, membrane
