Our new professor in Medicinal Chemistry
Last Friday, Anders Bach was inaugurated as professor at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, a ceremony that was celebrated with a reception in Atrium afterwards.
Professor Anders Bach held an inaugural lecture with the title “Making chemicals to block proteins – how and why?”. In this lecture, he described how his interest in science had developed from a fascination of the chemistry-to-life process to discovering the field of medicinal chemistry and finally drug development targeting oxidative stress and inflammation in neurodegenerative diseases.
In his speech, Head of Department Dan Stærk highlighted Anders Bach’s reputation as a systematically working scientist with an enormous curiosity in addition to being a well-respected and caring leader. Finally, he gave the new professor the traditional gift of the Pharma mortar after his speech.
Anders Bach is heading the Bach Group, a research group that develops biological active small-molecule inhibitors of protein-protein interactions involved in oxidative stress and which play key roles in inflammation and brain diseases.
