Tommy Nørskov Johansen receives the Danish Pharmaceutical Society’s Gold Medal 2025

The Gold Medal is awarded every five years to a person who has made a ground-breaking contribution to the pharmaceutical sciences and practice.

What has been your main goal in rethinking pharmaceutical education?

My main goal has been to create new study programmes and adjust existing programmes to the development within pharmacy and to make sure they continue to meet society’s needs.

What motivates you in your job?

A lot of things. First and foremost, being part of and helping to build a good team. The interaction that characterises a well-functioning, successful team. It really motivates me to see young people gain an interest in the field and to see them grow professionally and as individuals and to support them in that process.

And then I enjoy developing and organising study programmes and courses together with good, dedicated colleagues and getting employers involved in the process and getting their input.

What does receiving the Danish Pharmaceutical Society Gold Medal mean to you personally?

It is a huge recognition. It motivates me to take on exciting new tasks, e.g. the integration of data science in pharmaceutical education together with the Center for Pharmaceutical Data Science Education and the University of Southern Denmark and developing patient-centred clinical pharmacy to help ensure that pharmacists’ competences can be of even greater use to the healthcare system.”

It was a real pleasure to be part of the celebration where Tommy received the Danish Pharmaceutical Society's gold medal, it is so well deserved. With his great commitment and unique efforts, Tommy has had a decisive impact on the development of PharmaSchool's educations and students. We are all delighted to have such a dedicated and inspiring head of studies.

Susan Weng Larsen, School Director for PharmaSchool.
