Translational Neuropharmacology Group
We study mechanisms underlying chronic pain states, cognitive dysfunction & emotional disturbances, as well as the mechanism of action of compounds used to treat these conditions.
Animal models of human CNS disorders are limited in terms of their ability to replicate or resemble human conditions. An integral part of our research is therefore to study the human conditions directly as well as developing animal models that more closely replicate symptoms associated with human disease.
We employ a range of experimental techniques to address these scientific questions from different levels of complexity, the main focus being on bridging the gap between in vitro and in vivo studies as well as the gap between animal and human studies. Our approach is therefore largely interdisciplinary, and involves close collaborations with medicinal chemists and clinical researchers.
